|

Much thanks to Jackstiefel for figuring out the memory structure of the 8100. Please do this with caution cause you can really hose your phone. Perform this at your own risk.
Things you will need:
1) VX 8000/7000 data cable which can be bought on eBay or a blue tooth adaptor.
2) Latest copy of the LG QPST which you can found by doing a google search.
3) The USB drivers which can be found here
(thanks caltrinity)
Now the first thing you want to do is open up the QPST Configuration. Double check to see if your com port is listed as available in the list. If not, open up the windows device manager and find out which com port you device is on and add it to the available com port list in the configuration.
Once the com port is there, you can close the QPST Configuration and open up the QPST EFS explorer. This is the tool you will add/delete all of the ring tones that you want.
The screen is broken up in two parts. On the left hand side is the menu tree and on the right hand side shows the files in the chosen directory. The third directory down is labeled DLOAD which you can click it once and you will see all the files listed on the right hand side. Click and delete two files named "my_ringtone.dat and my_ringtonesize.dat"
Once those are deleted, click on the next directory up named BREW. Then choose sub folder 16452, then LK, and finally select the MR folder.
Now this folder should be empty unless you have already downloaded files from GIN service. You are going to right click once on the right side of the screen and it will ask you to View, New, Open, Copy from phone, Delete, and Properties.
Select NEW and then file. It will open up a a pop up window asking you to select file on hard drive that you wish to copy to phone. Click the browse button and file the appropriate file.
Ringers should be in a .mid or .mid format and really shouldn't be bigger than 175k for space limitations (ringers only have a 2mb total limit) and I have tried uploading as many as nine ringers at the same time. I would not suggest uploading more than 10 at time as it might cause the phone to crash.
Once you have selected the ringer, click open then OK at the bottom right hand side of your screen.
You will see a message telling you that the file is being written over to the phone which takes about 15 seconds depending on file size.
Once the message is gone, you can click the third button from the top left hand side that says "RESET PHONE" and you are done. Unplug your cable and power cycle your phone.
The ringers should now appear in your folder on your phone labeled MY RINGERS...

Success! Finally!
Word of caution: if you've got ringtones already set for contacts, they will be reset when you add new ringtones in this manner. This is because the *.dat file(s) [not sure which one it is] get rewritten after new ringtones are loaded, and the ringtones are identified within the contacts by indexing the .dat file.
It's rather interesting when you hear a newly uploaded ringtone you haven't set for a contact and it plays. |

| I did these steps and lets say if I were to upload like 3 songs and maybe 2 out of the 3 load. It shows on the program but not on the phone. Any reason as to why that is or what I can do to change/fix this from happening. |

I haven't got around to trying this with my VX-8100 yet (it's still charging) but on my VX-7000 (yes you can use .mp3 files... just knock the quality down to about 40kbps and chop them to be about 30 seconds long) you have to put the ringtones in user/sound/ringer. The reason your phone says "service required" is because it's in "exclusive access" mode in QPST. Once you reset it, it will be fine. I presume the 8100 will be the same because it seems to be the same sort of structure as the 7000.
Wes
P.S. You can also use bitpim (www.bitpim.org) to do the same stuff. It's actually quite a bit easier to use than QPST. |

| The limit is frozen, as far as anyone else has been able to determine. And you cannot delete the pre-existing ringtones like you could with the 6000. |

Or...
you can use a sound editor like Sony Sound Forge to chop your mp3 and BitPim to upload it.... |

| ....Audacity. Simple to use, does everything you'd need from pinpoint editing, volume adjusment, and exporting the way you need it. And best of all, it's free. |

I've searched far and wide it seems for ways to make my new VX8100 "cooler" than the coolest guy in the next cubicle. So I want to have my .mp3's as ringtones like most of us here and i've seen several threads regarding "how" and "how nots" but, I am totally baffled as to when someone says to get a certain software (like: LG QPST for example or bitpim) and I find that no one has links or specific sources to go and get. Is there a reason for this? Call me naive if you must.
So, who here has the VX8100 and has had successfuly applied some of these techniques without failure and which "specific" technique have you used? I think specifics would justly and greatfully help those of us who are truly looking for answers. After all, isn't that what this forum was for?
Anyway, if anyone can tell me where to get "LG QPST" for my VX8100 to, at least, try and see if it works, please let me know where to get a "failsafe" version.
Thanks...

|
|
So, I was up a while and managed to find myself a zipped up version of QPST (v2.7 build 9) and got it going on COM6 for my application(s). I followed the instructions to the letter from off the top of this thread and things worked just fine. I was actually able to successfully load a full 192kb mp3, which is about 4.29MB in size, as a fully-functional ringtone. Then I added three more mp3 ringtones which were smaller (I took out the other larger mp3), in the range of about 1MB or less.
I got to load about 3 ringtones and started getting the "servive required" message on my phone and, like "Roxygyrl" said that she was able to put the file in the program and would not show up on the phone, I got the same scenario.
My question here is actually for "ND4SPD" or anyone who may have encountered the same problem and figured out how to fix it but, how do I reset the "exclusive access" mode in QPST or do you mean to reset the phone? I tried the latter but, still I didn't get the last ringtone I uploaded. So, if I need to "reset" something tell me what it is and where if you could...?
Thanks...

I tried BitPim and it was not even worth the effort past the program download. The interface [i've mentioned before in other posts] was like terribly set up. Not user-friendly whatsoever [in my opinion].
Then I [finally] found QPST and gave it a go and like some previous users in this thread mentioed they couldn't add ringtones after the second or third attempt; it also happened to me. I gave up on that idea as well. Great intentions, not so great results.
Lastly, I acquired the DataPilot Cell Phone Data Transfer Suite recently and "voila!"... Results I can finally credit as useful, unrestricting and non-problematic. I started a post in the link that follows and if anyone decides to grab up the "LG Kit" software i'd like to know what your experinces were...

| Any form of technology goes hand to hand so it was quite obvious that the world wide web would have resources from where we can customize the ringtones of our mobile phones, and with the options like Bluetooth and many other features this has now become a child’s play, I found this place incidentally from where we can download free ringtones and that too we might get exhausted to choose one as there are so many of them so do check this out if you are interested. |
